A Parenting Lesson from Hannah...

In her deep anguish Hannah prayed to the Lord, weeping bitterly.  And she made a vow, saying, “Lord Almighty, if you will only look on your servant’s misery and remember me, and not forget your servant but give her a son, then I will give him to the Lord for all the days of his life...Hannah was praying in her heart, and her lips were moving but her voice was not heard...So in the course of time Hannah became pregnant and gave birth to a son. She named him Samuel, saying, “Because I asked the Lord for him.”...Hannah Dedicates Samuel...After he was weaned, she took the boy with her, young as he was, along with a three-year-old bull, an ephah of flour and a skin of wine, and brought him to the house of the Lord at Shiloh... So now I give him to the Lord. For his whole life he will be given over to the Lord.” And he worshiped the Lord there. ~ Select Verses from 1Samuel chapter 1~

Shiloh is a prophecy of the Messiah as we see in Genesis. The fulfillment of the promise to Judah is when Shiloh comes (Genesis 49:10-12). "The scepter shall not pass from Judah until Shiloh comes...and the people shall gather at His feet."

Salvation through Jesus Christ is God's perfect rest. He can give us His perfect peace. Because we have "been justified by faith, we have peace with God through our Lord Jesus Christ" (Romans 5:1).

Hannah poured out her heart to the Lord for a child, she made a vow to dedicate him to God, then she made sacrifices to keep that vow, and finally gave her child over to be raised in Shiloh.

What can we learn from this?

We often pray for our children to be happy but do we pray for them to be Holy?

Through prayer cry out to God for your children. Pray the Holy Spirit would hear the groaning of your heart. Make a vow to give your children unto God to be holy. Make the hard choices or sacrifices to keep your vow, by raising them up in Christ.
