Acts 2: 1-4 When the day of Pentecost came, they were all together in one place. 2 Suddenly a sound like the blowing of a violent wind came from heaven and filled the whole house where they were sitting. 3 They saw what seemed to be tongues of fire that separated and came to rest on each of them. 4 All of them were filled with the Holy Spirit and began to speak in other tongues[a] as the Spirit enabled them.
As believers, when we look back in history, the day of Pentecost stands out as an historical day. The prophets of old, could only dream of this day coming and us of the current can only look back and imagine what a scene it must have been. This day in history goes down as one that would change the course of mankind. It was a day that believers would receive empowerment to be witnesses into the utter ends of the earth. It was also a day that would deepen believers worship to God.
These earlier believers and disciples were filled with the Holy Spirit. What does it mean to be filled with the Spirit? Think of it this way. In order for an object to be filled, first it must be emptied. These earlier believers realized that in order to be filled with Holy Spirit, that they would need to empty themselves. In other words, we must die to the things of this world, in order for us to come alive to the things of God!
This experience that the early disciples encountered 2,000 years ago was not only for them but for us today. It is an an experience that you can have in your life. It is God's desire to fill you with His presence and with His power. Will you yield yourself to Him today?
Prayer: God I yield myself to you! I die to the things that I want to accomplish in this life and give all my dreams to you! I pray that you fill me with the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in tongues. I pray that you would lead me, guide me, and direct my steps. In Jesus Name!
