Obedience & Commitments

...If a person thoughtlessly takes an oath to do anything, whether good or evil--in any matter one might carelessly swear about--even though he is unaware of it, in any case when he learns of it he will be guilty. ~ Leviticus 4:5 ~
Ever thoughtlessly responded to someone asking you to do something by giving one of these answers..."yeah, sure, whatever, no problem" and then later remembered that you agreed to it but it was to late to fulfill your commitment? Even if our intentions are for good, if we make a commitment and break it, it is sin. God wants us to keep our promises, so He tells us in His Word, think carefully before you agree to anything! And when you do make a commitment, keep it! What commitments have you made lately that you regret & need to confess? Complete them or go to God & that person and confess that you cannot, but either way, make it right. Write a comment to your past or present failures and successes in this area and helpful advice for others.

I used to have a hard time saying no to anything the pastor or Church asked of me and would often get myself into things that took time away from my family or other commitments, it took me a long time to learn to really pray about everything before saying yes to anything. when you read Leviticus 5:4 in context they were talking about the portable sanctuary (the tabernacle) it was used as a place where sin could be dealt with so along with naming the sin (a list of do's and don'ts) they also gave instruction as to how to deal with the sin when committed, such as offering rams and goats as sacrifices. As you know Christ was and is our sacrifice for sin so we no longer offer sacrifices for sin, but that does not do away with the fact that the things mentioned are still sins, only now we have a high priest that intercedes for us.I think verses like this, besides keeping us in line with being obedient are also wisdom for us, everyone appreciates and respects someone that keeps there promises, there is another verse in James that tells us to confess our sins to one another so that we may be healed and our sins forgiven, now people cannot forgive sins but when we confess to God AND people what it does is take that weight off of our shoulders, it releases the burden and the stress that causes illness, disease and depression, so God's laws are not just a list of do's and donts, they also protect us and allow us to live a healthy, liberated life. Set the captives free!
