We are called Christians because we are fellow partakers with him of his christing. This is what John speaks of, the Chrisma or the christing of the Holy One. The Holy Spirit is the Holy anointing that every believer receives. What God did to His Son to make Him the Christ, He does to us to make us Christians.
Who can receive this Holy Anointing or this christing? Only he who has given himself entirely to be holy as God is holy. It was the priest who was separated to be holy to The Lord, who received the anointing. (See exodus30:25, 32) on other men's flesh the anointing oil was not to be poured. How many would desire to have the precious ointment for the sake of it's perfume to themselves.
If anyone had said: "I would desire to have the anointing but not be made a priest, for I am not ready to go and always be at the call of sinners seeking their God" he can have no share in it.
The anointing of the Holy One is for the priest, the servant of God Most High. It is only in the intensity of a soul truly aroused and given up to God's glory, God's kingdom, and God's work that holiness becomes a reality.
If you are in Christ Jesus, do you not know you are a priest and a living sanctuary of the Holy Spirit of God? Leviticus 21:10, 12 tells us, "The priests were not to go out of the sanctuary, nor profane the sanctuary of his God" Be Holy, as God is Holy.
