If anyone compels you to go one mile, go with them two miles.
~ Matthew 5:41 ~
The Kings messengers in Persia were authorized to take by force Horses, carriages, and even men when they had need of them. The text was telling men when they were compelled to go, although it may be burdensome and hard labor, do so willingly instead of arguing. Flesh and blood shall not inherit the kingdom of God; but those who act upon right principles will have much peace and comfort, as well as be a witness to the world. This verses speaks to us today as well. What is it that is being asked of you? Overtime at work? Patience with someone? A little extra time with your kids when you just want to relax? Parking further away so someone else can have that spot up front? Paul said in 1 Corinthians 9:12 "we would rather put up with anything rather than hinder the gospel of Christ" Are you being compelled to go a mile? What's being asked of you may be a great burden, but for the sake of the Gospel, when asked to go a mile, with a smile and a warm heart, go two.
