The Bible tells us in James 4:7 to "Resist the devil, and he will flee from you" Many people quote this verse and yet, the devil does not flee. So what's up? Did God's Word fail? By No Means! The problem is that often times people either leave out vital information or they simply need more information. Resist the devil is only part of the verse, and then, there is even more vital information in the verses to follow. Let's take a look at James 4:7 again but this time lets look at verses 8-10 also...
Submit yourselves, then, to God........Resist the devil, and he will flee from you..........Come near to God and he will come near to you. Wash your hands, you sinners, and purify your hearts, you double-minded. Grieve, mourn and wail. Change your laughter to mourning and your joy to gloom. (over the sin in your life) Humble yourselves before the Lord, and he will lift you up.
So the emphasis is actually this...By Confession, Repentance, Humility, and Submitting yourself to God, you are able to resist the devil and he will flee from you! In this you WILL have victory.
